Component Credit Type State/Medical Type Available Credits Earned Credits The ethics of multiple relationships in healthcare professions has historically received significant attention, particularly from a “do no harm” risk management approach. Less attention has been paid to multiple relationships in university healthcare settings, where they are frequent and unavoidable. The presentation will address both a risk management and positive ethics approach, including a brief history of multiple relationships, defining terminology, sharing real world examples, and applying an ethical decision making model to case studies.

As reflective practitioners, it’s critical to grapple with underlying frameworks that shape our understanding of student identities and experiences. One place where biases often go unchecked is in our approaches to student substance use, addiction, and recovery. This session will engage participants in a survey tool to guide a review of assumptions and beliefs that develop our professional and personal approaches to student drug use. Themes and takeaways will also be shared from implementing this tool with professionals around the country.
