Unexplained Recurrent Abdominal Pain: One Patient's Journey to an AHP Diagnosis

Although anyone can have Acute Hepatic Porphyria (AHP), the majority of cases occur in women of reproductive age, with most attacks occurring between the ages of 15 and 45. People with symptomatic AHP experience acute, potentially life-threatening attacks and, for some patients, chronic, debilitating symptoms. AHP may inflict years of suffering and is associated with potentially irreversible long-term complications. The symptoms of AHP can often resemble those of other more common conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), fibromyalgia, and endometriosis, and consequently, patients afflicted with AHP are often misdiagnosed or remain undiagnosed for up to 15 years.

You are invited to join us to learn more about acute hepatic porphyria (AHP). This program, Unexplained Recurrent Abdominal Pain: One Patient’s Journey to Diagnosis, will provide an overview of AHP, a rare genetic disease characterized by debilitating, potentially life-threatening attacks, of which the cardinal symptom is severe, diffuse abdominal pain.
