As we celebrate 20 years of the ACHA-NCHA, this program will introduce the NCHA III by sharing instrument reliability and validity, reviewing data from the first implementation (Fall 2019) of the NCHA III, and demonstrate ways new measures may be used in data analysis.

Mary Hoban, PhD, MCHES

Mary Hoban is the Chief Research Officer at ACHA. In 1997, she left the University of Maryland, University Health Center to manage a 10 year, $2.5 million CDC-funded HIV prevention project at the American College Health Association.  In 2006, she was appointed the Director of the ACHA National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA) Program Office and became the Chief Research Officer at ACHA in 2016. She has worked with the ACHA-NCHA since it’s inception in 2000. Mary holds a PhD in Public and Community Health from the University of Maryland, College Park (2002) and is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist.  Mary and her team have responsibility for managing data collection for the NCHA, NFSHA, PSAS, the IPS, and numerous other survey efforts at ACHA.

Alyssa Lederer, PhD, MPH, MCHES,

Assistant Professor

Tulane University

Dr. Alyssa Lederer is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Health Education and Communication MPH Program in the Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences at Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She began her career as a college health practitioner and much of her current research relates to college health promotion.

CNE This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association Approver Unit, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.


CHES/MCHES Sponsored by ACHA, a designated provider of continuing education content hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. This program is designed for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and/or Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES) to receive up to 1.0 total Category 1 continuing education contact hours. Maximum advanced-level contact hours available are 1.0. There are 0 Continuing Competency credits available.


ACHA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. ACHA maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This program has been awarded 1.5 hours of continuing education for psychologists.

CPEU This activity has been approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for 1.0 CPEUs.

Successful Completion/Post Test
It is the policy of the American College Health Association that when a post-test is required upon completion of a continuing education activity, participants must receive a passing grade of 80%. If participants receive a grade lower than 80%, they will be given the opportunity to re-take the post-test one time. If they receive 80% or higher the second time, they will be awarded continuing education credits/contact hours for the activity. We encourage participants to complete the post-test immediately after viewing the download.
