Risks and Rewards: Young Adult Decision-Making in COVID Times and Beyond

As students return to campus, now is the time to plan for addressing those students who may engage in risky behaviors as they enthusiastically try to make up for lost time. Since many campus policies rely on students to make their own personal risk assessments when deciding when to mask and whether to get vaccinated, campus staff are increasingly important in assisting students in their decision-making processes.

Join us for this webinar featuring Elizabeth Cauffman, PhD, Professor of Psychological Science, Education and Law, to learn how young adult brain development influences a range of protective health behaviors, from vaccination to risk-mitigation to harm-reduction in substance use, sexual behavior and more and how we can use this knowledge to create developmentally appropriate health promotion.

Learning outcomes
Campus personnel will be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge of young adult brain development to encourage health promoting behaviors

  2. Describe the role of rewards in incentivizing positive student behaviors

  3. Explain peer and parent influences on young adult decision-making

  4. Contrast young adults’ emotion-driven behavior with the more self-regulated behavior of adults
